Mobile home: A snip at £500,000

8 Jul 2007

It might be a glorified caravan, but this mobile home in North Wales is on sale for £500,000.

The image “http://img.metro.co.uk/i/pix/2007/07/BeachHouse_450x308.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

And the asking price, which sets a new British record, won't even bag you the chalet for life – there's also a £4,750 annual lease for its plot, which runs out in 20 years.

The three-bedroom mobile home, overlooking the beach near Abersoch, Gwynedd, measures just 13m by 6m (42ft by 20ft) – half the size of a tennis court – and has three bedrooms, a kitchen and bathroom.

Its asking price would buy a two-bedroom flat in Chelsea. It could also fund a distinctly warmer holiday in Barbados – ten times a year, for the next 50 years.

But if our wash-out summer doesn't deter buyers, at least they will have a high-definition TV system to while away the rainy days. Optimistically, it also has an air-conditioning system.

The home is one of 500 at The Warren holiday park, run by Haulfryn Holiday Homes. Marketing manager Andrew Sawyer said it offered 'stunning sea views,' adding: 'It is probably one of the most luxurious holiday homes ever produced.'

The home won't be advertised but offered to people on a waiting list – with another soon to go on sale for £475,000.

In May last year, a beach hut at Abersoch was sold for £67,000 at auction to a buyer from Cheshire. It is a different story for locals, however.

The average wage in Abersoch is £16,060, making even the average house price – £290,000 – a stretch.
