AA insurance: Cover 'crucial' for van drivers

26 Jun 2007

AA Insurance is urging those small businesses with vans to make sure they are adequately insured.

A survey of 200 commercial van drivers carried out by the group reveals that over half (59 per cent) of drivers believe that their van is essential to the smooth running of a business.

Almost a quarter of firms also identified how they would lose a significant amount of money even if their van was not available for a day or longer.

Vans are frequently used outside office hours, the survey shows, with over half of respondents using them on a day-to-day basis for a shopping trip.

Rhiannon Parker, head of van insurance at AA Insurance, said: "Love them or hate them, vans are a big part of our culture and contribute enormously to the UK economy."

She added: "Whether they're sparkies or plumbers, drivers face significant loss of earnings if their van's out of service, so it's essential to ensure they're properly covered when the worst happens."
